Budget Hotels in Tokyo

Welcome to Tokyo-Hotels

Find the perfect hotel in the dynamic capital of Japan. Choose a hotel in the very center near Tokyo Station or neighboring Ginza for your travel convenience, if arriving by train.

Consider other major Tokyo hubs on the circular Yamanote Line (山手線) as well, such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, or Ueno (with its museums, park, cherry blossoms, and proximity to Narita Airport off to the northeast).

Traditional ryokans and dozens of modern hotels are tucked into the calmer, older district of Asakusa. Budget and business lodging are plentiful in Shinagaw (south of downtown, with a new Shinkansen bullet-train station) and even in distant Narita.

Tokyo received over 20 million foreign visitors last year, mostly from East Asia, boosting hotel average occupancy rates to over 74%. So, if stopping for a few days in Tokyo in 2026 for leisure or on your way to the Asian Games in Nagoya, best to reserve your hotel room in advance!

Insider Travel Tips

  • 3 types of bullet trains (shinkansen) run between Tokyo & Osaka. "Nozomi" makes 4 stops and takes just 2 hours 22 minutes. "Hikari" makes 10 intermediate stops and "Kodama" is the slowest with 15 stops.
  • Haneda airport Terminal 3 (for domestic flights) is 19 minutes from downtown Tokyo using the "Tokyo Monorail". Get on board at the Hamamatsuchō subway station (on the circular Yamanote line).
  • JR Narita Express (NEX) runs from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station in 60 minutes (3000 yen or use your Japan Rail Pass). JR Sobu Line (Rapid Service) is cheaper (1340 yen) but takes 90 minutes and runs hourly.
  • Tokyo Origami Museum (in Sumida area) is a room full of beautiful examples plus paper dyeing. Ochanomizu Origami Kaikan (in central Tokyo near Kanda-Myojin Shrine) is bigger and combines an artisan workshop, classes, store, and mini gallery.
  • Kamakura is a delightful town 1 hour south of Tokyo. This seaside resort and political center of medieval Japan has dozens of temples and Shinto shrines. Its bronze 43-foot Great Buddha is 700 years old. Plus, Yuigahama Beach is popular with surfers.
  • Harajuku is a lively area in Shibuya. Home to youth-culture street fashion (cosplay, gothic punk, Victorian clothing).
  • Pack wisely before arriving in Japan. JR trains allow passengers only 2 pieces of luggage (30 kg) and require special seat reservations for "oversized baggage". Business hotel rooms are compact, so it will be difficult to place much baggage there.
